Ahead of the premiere ofHawkeyeon Disney+ this month, Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio is seemingly having some fun with the rumors that he’ll appear on the show. It’s previously been reported that D’Onofrio might show up on Hawkeye to reprise his role as Wilson Fisk, aka the supervillain Kingpin. The actor has since denied his involvement, but as is the case with Andrew Garfield insisting he’s not inSpider-Man: No Way Home, people are still convinced otherwise.
There’s no confirmation whatsoever at this time thatKingpinwill be inHawkeye, but even knowing about the rumors, D’Onofrio hyped the new show in an interesting way. Tweeting aHawkeyetrailer, the actor simply wrote, “This is going to be fun. I love these Marvel series.”
There are a couple of different ways this can be taken, and something tells me D’Onofrio meant for the tweet to come across this way. Now, certainly, D’Onofrio might mean thatHawkeyeis going to be fun to watch as a fan along with the rest of us and is just taking a moment to help put over the show as a part of theMarvel family. Given its holiday theme, you’re able to’t really argue that the series doesn’t look “fun.”
With that said, Vincent D’Onofrio has to know some Marvel fans will interpret this tweet another way. If he’s secretly in the series, the actor could be alluding to the fun he had in reprising the role, along with the reaction he’s anticipating that the special appearance will receive from fans. It’s also an interesting thing to say as it was recently announced that Alaqua Cox will star in her ownEchospinoff series after first appearing onHawkeye, which has brought attention back to the Kingpin rumors. In the comic books, Kingpin is Echo’s adoptive father.
D’Onofrio was questioned about the rumors in an interview with Screen Rant. He told the outlet that he wasn’t inHawkeye, swearing that there were no plans at this time to bring him in for the show or any other Marvel project. Some fans will believe that while others won’t, but either way, the actor does make it clear just how excited he’d be to revisit that role, should it happen sometime soon (if it hasn’t already).
“I do take [the fan excitement over the rumors] as a compliment,” D’Onofrio said. “I so badly want to play that character again. I love that character. I just have to wait for Marvel to ask me. I think it’s very clear that I would, and the fans know that I would jump at the chance to play again. I just need to be asked.”
Hawkeyeis set to begin streaming onDisney+on Nov. 24. Meanwhile, rumors are heating up that D’Onofrio’sDaredevilco-star Charlie Cox is also about to appear as Charlie Cox in another MCU-set project. It’s heavily rumored that he’ll turn up in the anticipated sequelSpider-Man: No Way Home, and many fans believe he could also have a role in the upcomingShe-Hulkseries on Disney+. We’ll all just have to wait and see what happens.
