Back in October 2014, Showtime announced that the belovedcult classicseriesTwin Peakswill return on the pay cable network, with a 2016 debut initially slated. The 2016 date was significant for longtime fans, since, in the series finale way back in 1991, Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) told Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) that she would see him again in 25 years. Unfortunately, the show hit a few stumbling blocks along the way, with series creatorDavid Lyncheven backing out of the show at one point, only to return. We learned last year that the show may not be ready to debut until 2017, and while we still don’t have a specific premiere date, it seems fans are in for a bit longer of a wait than expected.
Showtimenetwork presidentDavid Nevinsheld a conference call yesterday, where he revealed thatDavid Lynchis currently editing the episodes together, and that they’re planning to debut the show in “the second quarter” of 2017. While a specific date was never given before, it was hinted thatTwin Peakscould debut either in late 2016 or early 2017, but now it seems they have a bit more of a concrete plan worked out. Still, it hasn’t been confirmed how many episodes this season will have.
It was originally announced that the show would be nine episodes long, withDavid Lynchdirecting from scripts he co-wrote withMark Frost. AfterDavid Lynch’s brief departure and subsequent return, it was confirmed that the show will be much longer than the original nine-episode run, but the exact episode count won’t be confirmed until after the filmmaker is done editing. It was revealed thatDavid LynchandMark Frostactually wrote one massive script that was shot as an incredibly long movie, with the director then cutting the footage into episodes during post-production.
Production wrapped on the revival in late April, when Showtime finally confirmed a slew of returning cast members from the original series. Some of the returning cast members areMadchen Amick,Dana Ashbrook,David Duchovny,Sherilyn Fenn,Miguell Ferrer,Sheryl Lee,Peggy Lipton,Harry Dean Stanton,Russ Tamblyn,Ray WiseandAlicia Witt, just to name a few. Most of these actors had been rumored to return in some fashion both before and during production, which started way back in September. Several of the new cast members had been revealed in the past, such asAmanda SeyfriedandJennifer Jason Leigh, but this full cast list reveals many more stars who had not been previously announced.
