The plot for Jon Favreau’sThe Mandalorianmay have just leaked online and it sounds a lot likeStar WarsmeetsLone Wolf and Cub. When the Disney+ show was initially announced, there wasn’t a whole lot of information about it. However, in the last few months, a lot more light has been shed on the project and how it will possibly connect to the originalStar Warstrilogy and theThe Force Awakenstrilogy. We’ve seen leaked footage from the set, the suit design, and have even gotten casting info, with Pedro Pascal reportedly taking on the lead role with Nick Nolte and Gina Carino joining the cast.
According to possible leaked marketing material,The Mandalorianwill revolve around the warrior finding a baby on one of his missions that he was supposed to kill. Instead, he rescues the infant and takes care of it. The story will supposedly center on their relationship as the child grows to be the heir of Mandalore. Additionally, the original report goes on to state thatthe armor that we have seen in the first promo imageswill radically change by the time of the third episode.
This is pretty interesting news forStar Warsfans.The Mandaloriantakes placeafter the events of Return of the Jediand beforeThe Force Awakens, which means that the baby the warrior finds and takes under his wing could potentially be the same age as Rey, Poe, and Finn from the current trilogy. If so, the show could have a very interesting way of connecting to the latest trilogy as well as thefuture of the Star Wars franchise, which would be a pretty clever way of introducing a new main character in the vein of Luke Skywalker’s story arc.
Obviously, this isn’t official news from Lucasfilm or Disney, so it should be treated as a rumor for now. But it does seem like a very intriguing idea for a show in theStar Warsuniverse. Jon Favreau has been spotted on the set with Taika Waititi and the Russo Brothers have also stopped by as well. The pilot for the series will be directed by Dave Filoni with Bryce Dallas Howard, Waititi, Rick Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow also stepping up to direct additional episodes. Hopefully more information about the actual storyline will be revealed in the coming months.
The Disney+ streaming platform is expected to launch in late 2019 withThe Mandalorianpremiering some time in 2020. Disney is sinking a lot of money into the ten episodes, so the show is expected to look and feel like anything else from theStar Warsuniverse, which is good news for fans who were unsure what to expect.
