After the success of the first season,HBOhas shared new images of Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie in the second season of the seriesThe Last of Us.According to a press release, the new episodes will hit the screen in 2025.
First Images of The Last of Us Season 2
The new season is expected to follow the events of the video gameThe Last of Us Part II, released in 2020, which explores the consequences of Joel’s actions at the end of the first part. However, it is expected that it won’t be fully adapted, as the showrunners indicated in an interview with GQ that fully interpreting the plot ofTLOU2 Iwould likely take more than one season.
The recently released images show Pascal standing outside at night, speaking to someone with their back to the camera. The atmosphere appears tense, suggesting that Joel is in a dangerous situation. Ellie, on the other hand, seems to be sneaking into a building with her weapon ready to fire in case something goes wrong.

The Anticipated Appearance of Abby
Among the most anticipated new characters isAbby, a young woman around 20 years old seeking revenge for her father’s death. Her quest for justice has led her on a perilous journey that will intersect with the paths of Ellie and Joel. The actress confirmed to portray her is Kaitlyn Dever, known for her roles inBooksmartandNo One Will Save You.
The cast of season 2 also includes the return of Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Joel’s brother, and Rutina Wesley as Maria, Tommy’s wife. Joining the cast are Isabela Merced, Mazin, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, and Danny Ramirez. Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara will have a special guest appearance.

Filming began on June 30, 2025, after the show triumphed at the Emmy Awards, winning eight awards in categories such as Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series (Pedro Pascal), and Best Actress in a Drama Series (Bella Ramsey). Additionally, it received recognitions at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Television Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the creators of the video game and writers of the series, return as executive producers and showrunners. Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells also serve as executive producers.

The development is handled by Sony Pictures Television in co-production with HBO. The release date has yet to be announced, but it is expected sometime in 2025.
