This spring, Warner Bros. launched their DC Comics Extended Universe (DCEU) with the divisive blockbusterBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which has taken in over $871 million worldwide, but hasn’t been received well by fans and critics alike. The next installment in the DCEU isSuicide Squad, which is set to hit theaters on August 5 and has been getting plenty of buzz over the past few months. As it turns out,Suicide Squadis the most popular movie coming out over the next few months among Twitter users.
USA Todayreports thatSuicide Squadis the most-tweeted about movie that will be released over the next three months. Between March 1 and May 26, thiscomic bookadaptation was tweeted about over 1 million times. The online conversation was given a big boost when anew trailerwas released in April, which had more than 130,000 retweets and 170,000 likes. There was also a newJokeremoji that was revealed by starJared Leto, along with the hashtag #JokerWasHere.
Suicide Squadeasily beat out its nearest competitors on Twitter, withFinding Dorygarnering 869,000 tweets, followed byGhostbusters(565,000 tweets),Me Before You(329,000 tweets),Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows(251,000 tweets) andWarcraft(244,000 tweets). However,Suicide Squadstill falls short of two superhero adventures which recently hit theaters.Captain America: Civil War, which promoted #TeamCap and #TeamIronMan hashtags, brought in 10.4 million tweets within the same time period, while this weekend’sX-Men: Apocalypsewas tweeted about 1.8 million times.
Speaking of Twitter, directorDavid Ayertook to the social media platform to release a new image from a scoring session forSuicide Squad. The photo shows the string section of the orchestra “hard at work,” while we can see an image ofMargot Robbie’s Harley Quinn on the big screen above the orchestra.Steven Price, who won an Oscar for hisGravityscore, is composing the original score forSuicide Squad, but it isn’t known when we might get our first preview of his work.
