Production started onStranger Things Season 2last month, with all of your favorite characters returning to the show, along with a few newcomers as well. It has already been confirmed that Season 2 will span nine episodes, one more than the eight-episode premiere season, with the story set in 1984, one year after we last caught up with the residents of Hawkins. While there isn’t much that has been teased about this new story in the sleepy Indiana town, the show’s lead hairstylistSarah Hindsgauloffered some interesting hints that the characters will be getting some new 1980s hairstyles.

TheNetflix serieswas one of the most talked-about shows this year, with critics and fans alike praising the performances byWinona RyderandDavid Harbour, along with the show’s breakout ensemble of young stars such asMillie Bobby Brown,Finn Wolfhard,Gaten Matarazzo,Caleb McLaughlin,Noah Schapp,Natalie Dyer,Charlie Heaton,Cara BuonoandShannon Purser. The show is heading deeper into the 1980s, as lead hairstylistSarah Hindsgaulreveals in an interview withRefinery 29that there are a lot of wigs being used this time around. She also teases a particularly “drastic” change in looks forNatlia Dyer’s Nancy Wheeler.

“This year it is very different - we start stepping more into the ’80s, which is kind of amazing, visually. Last year was ‘83 and this year is ‘84, and they’re still inHawkins, Indiana- but people are starting to realize there are perms and mullets, so we’re using a lot of wigs this year, because no one wants perms and mullets. It’s been a fun step. All of the characters have developed. Nancy has kind of a big hair turn this year, too - they decided to do something drastic… That’s all I can tell you.”

While Netflix has yet to issue an official synopsis forStranger ThingsSeason 2, we have gotten some details thanks to the casting of incoming characters. Danish actressLinnea Berthelsenis playing an emotionally-damaged young woman, who doesn’t actually live in Hawkins, but is “mysteriously connected” to the events that happened in the Hawkins lab.

They all joinDacre Montgomeryand Sadie Sink, who play step-siblings Billy and Max. Billy is described as “edgy and overly confident,” with a “violent and unpredictable nature”. His hobbies include stealing girlfriends away from their longtime boyfriends, playing drinking games and driving his black Camaro. Max is described as a skater girl who is tough and confident, but she also has a “complicated history” and is suspicious of everyone in her life. It isn’t known how they, or any of the other previously-announced new characters, will fit into the story for this new season ofStranger Things, but hopefully we’ll have some updates in the new year.
