Virtuos, the studio working on theMetal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eaterremake, is also reportedly tasked with givingThe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion(2006) byBethesdaa modern makeover. This information has surfaced multiple times, and an official announcement is said to be imminent.

The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remake Might Be on the Horizon

The profile of Oleksii Moskovchenko, the technical art director at Virtuos Shanghai, mentions that the studio is developing an unannounced remake using Unreal Engine 5 forXbox Series, PlayStation 5, and PC.While there is no direct link toOblivion, this confirms that the studio is working on at least one other remake.

Leaks about this project first emerged in 2023 when a former Virtuos employee mentioned several projects at the company, including an update toTES IV: Oblivionthat could either be a remaster or a remake—depending on the project’s final scope.

Rumors: The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remake Could Be in Development

The gameplay and physics would reportedly use the original engine, while new graphics and effects would be powered by Unreal Engine 5. The rumor gained momentum a year later when a court document highlighted Bethesda’s plans, dating back to 2020, to release a remaster of Oblivion.

An RPG Without as Many Re-Releases as Skyrim

Virtuos, founded in 2004, has contributed to the development of several major titles over the years and has worked on adapting games to multiple platforms. BothMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake EaterandOblivionare beloved classics, and these remakes should showcase the studio’s ability to update iconic games.

As we mentioned a few weeks ago,Oblivionwas the game that significantly boosted the series’ popularity. While the sales phenomenon came later with Skyrim, the lack of remasters or re-releases for consoles makes a remake ofThe Elder Scrolls IVa logical choice.
