The CEO of Microsoft Gaming insists that his main goal is simply to offer more ways for players to enjoy Xbox titles—something that, in his words, “is beneficial for us.”
Phil Spencer: “I Think It’s About Being Transparent”
Xbox games set to arrive on other platforms in 2025—such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Forza Horizon 5, andDoom: The Dark Ages—are set to mark a new turning point.
There are big plans for PS5 and Nintendo Switch, including the rumored Switch 2. However, the Microsoft Gaming CEO wants to make it clear that this isn’t about excluding anyone—it’s about enhancing the gaming experience for everyone.

In an interview with XboxEra to celebrate its 250th episode, Spencer shared insights into the brand’s future and how it plans to present itself moving forward.
When asked about featuring other companies' logos during Xbox events, he stated:

“I think it’s about being transparent and honest about where the games we showcase are going. People should know where they can buy our games, but I want players to experience our Xbox community in our games and everything we offer, on as many screens as possible.”
He acknowledged that not all platforms are the same but emphasized that Microsoft’s strategy enables them to create great games while continuing to support their native platform, from hardware to services.

No Longer Trying to Move Players to Xbox
The discussion also touched on Xbox’s shift in strategy, with some comparing it to Sega. Spencer addressed concerns from the community:
“There are players in PlayStation and Nintendo libraries who enjoy the games available there. I don’t see why we shouldn’t create a business that reaches them as well. I’m not trying to move everyone to Xbox anymore. There was a huge interest in our games.”

He emphasized that allowing more people to play benefits the industry:“Yes, 70% of what we release on other platforms helps us build strong portfolios, as we showed in the Dev Direct, and I hope to continue demonstrating that throughout the year.”
Balancing Releases in 2025
Another concern raised was whether Xbox has too many games lined up for 2025. Spencer reassured that the team is carefully planning their releases. He mentioned that he and Matt Booty had discussions about Avowed, especially after adjusting its release window.
“Between Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which we knew would be huge, and Indy, which we expected to be our big December game—it was complicated. But planning the portfolio is an ongoing effort, and we’re committed to getting it right.”

A New Approach for Xbox
Spencer concluded by aligning with Take-Two’s philosophy:“When we move forward, we want to ensure our games have the right space, whether it’s through additional content like DLC or a full release. And it’s great to have more options than ever. But the studios are the ones making it all possible, and they’re doing an amazing job right now.”
It’s clear that Phil Spencer envisions Microsoft and Xbox in a way that not everyone may agree with, but one thing is certain—Xbox games will be appearing on PlayStation and Nintendo more than ever before.
