Obsidian is Working on a New Game

If Insomniac Games is the leading studio for PlayStation, it’s clear that Obsidian Entertainment holds a similar position for Xbox Game Studios. The Californian studio has belonged to Microsoft since 2018, and they have released four games. From The Outer Worlds, Pentiment, and Grounded, all also available on PlayStation and Switch to the upcoming Xbox and PC exclusive,Avowed, which will hit stores in November 2024.

Let’s not forget that the Xbox studio is also preparing the sequel toThe Outer Worlds, which was first announced in the summer of 2021. Among the many masterpieces created by Obsidian, many highlight Fallout: New Vegas, a game that used the graphics and gameplay mechanics of Fallout 3 but recaptured the spirit of the first Black Isle games.

Obsidian Has a Third Unannounced Game in Development

Unfortunately, it has been 14 years since the release of Fallout New Vegas, and there are no real signs of a sequel or remaster. However, the enormous success of the Fallout series has boosted the popularity of the saga, and perhaps Microsoft has ambitious plans for Obsidian.

Avowedis Obsidian’s next release.

The dark fantasy role-playing game, set in thePillars of Eternityuniverse, will arrive on Xbox and PC (and Game Pass) in the fall, with a rumored release date of June 09, 2025. After that, it will be time to venture into The Outer Worlds 2, the sequel to the popular space RPG that debuted in 2019 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox (later on Switch).

Interestingly, according to the professional profile of art director Daniel Cabuco, Obsidian is working on a new unannounced game. Cabuco serves as the art director for the mentioned project, and his work at the studio began in July of this year. It is unlikely to be The Outer Worlds 2, as he indicates it is an unannounced game.

Certainly, fans of the post-apocalyptic saga dream of a return to New Vegas, as seen in aRedditthread and also onTwitter/X.There are rumors that it is the new game by Josh Sawyer, director of Fallout: New Vegas, although it is likely to be a smaller, more personal project. Others, meanwhile, are asking for a third installment of the Pillars of Eternity saga.
