The Xbox Developer_Direct 2025 kicked off with the announcement ofNinja Gaiden 4, marking the return of Koei Tecmo’s legendary franchise. This time, the game is developed by PlatinumGames, the creators of Bayonetta. Additionally, a stunning remaster ofNinja Gaiden 2using Unreal Engine 5 was revealed and is now available on Xbox Game Pass.

Ninja Gaiden 4 marks the return of the iconic action series after 13 years. It’s developed in collaboration between Team Ninja, the studio behind previous entries, and PlatinumGames, and published by Xbox Game Studios. This installment promises a fresh experience by blending classic series elements with modern innovations.

The game introduces a new protagonist,Yakumo, set in a dark, cyberpunk-inspired Tokyo transformed by the return of the Dark Dragon. While Yakumo leads the narrative, the legendaryRyu Hayabusaalso plays a significant role, appearing as both a formidable challenge and a playable character, ensuring long-time fans feel at home. One of the standout features is the"Bloodraven Form"ability, allowing Yakumo to manipulate blood to craft massive weapons and execute devastating attacks like the"Bloodbath Kill", capable of turning the tide in battle. The premise of introducing a new character is similar to the Nero and Dante dynamic seen in the release ofDevil May Cry 4, released in 2008.

The cyberpunk Tokyo setting, complete with atmospheric effects like detailed rain, enhances the game’s immersion. Interestingly, this is the second game in the Ninja Gaiden franchise announced in just over a month. The first,Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, is being developed byThe Game Kitchen, the creators of Blasphemous.
