Oscar Isaac’sMoon Knightwas one of the most unique and subversive projects for the MCU. The show moved away from the usual conventional superhero tropes and explored a psychological thriller with a character suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder. This was a bold move and an interesting direction for the MCU to go and the show was a generally well-made show with some glaring flaws in between.

One of the general criticisms that audiences had for the show was the constant cutting way of brutal and interesting fight sequences and only showing the aftermath of the violence. Although it was a bold creative choice and made narrative sense, it also felt like a waste of potential for the show to explore. The director and audiences had contrasting views regarding this aspect of the show.

Director and Audiences Have Contrasting Takes On The Action inMoon Knight

Oscar Isaac‘sMoon Knightwas a welcome change for the MCU, proving to be a bold and compelling exploration of a character suffering from DID, and moving away from what the MCU was generally known for. But a major criticism of the show was the deliberate choice of cutting away from major action sequences (to signify a blackout). The director of the show Mohamed Diab talked about this aspect toArabic Marvelsaying,

“The idea that you’re in the middle of action and that it cuts. This was something I liked, a brilliant idea. It was one of the best things I was proud of in the action. Now, this way you indulge people more in the scene and they just can’t get up and go eat a snack or something. Because sometimes I get bored of action scenes because I know it’s ten minutes, I’ll go eat and come back. And the hero would win after an intense fight. Now, anything can happen.”

Fans were not happy with this decision and they took toXto slam the director and the show for losing out on some wildly exciting action sequences.

Literally the worst decision of the show

I didn’t like the skip of fights, was lazy to me, I get it he turns into a different person but that was just a way to skip action…. great

And then he showed almost zero fighting sequences this was one of the worst shows I’ve ever seen that I was so excited for

It is an interesting yet frustrating conundrum as the intention behind the decision to shoot the action sequences that way is understandable. But at the same time, the glory of seeing a delightfully creative and violent was lost in the process. Overall, the show turned out to be a bold endeavor for the franchise.

Moon KnightMay Have Been Made as a One-Off Miniseries

Ever since the end of Oscar Isaac’sMoon Knight, fans have been speculating whether a second season would come in the future, But the director of the show Mohamed Diab may have shot down their hopes of a sophomore season. He told Arabic Marvel,

“Marvel had determined it from the first day. Marvel’s series projects are all six episodes except for special projects like WandaVision. The usual format is six episodes. Loki is the only series they said will be in two parts from the first day. Marvel’s way is not the usual way where if the project succeeds, I say let’s renew it for a second season. It’s their plan, successful or not, they have a plan.”

It remains to be seen whether the character appears in a future Marvel project. New fans can experience the bold and creative MCU series on Disney+.
