A New Protagonist: Gaius Julius Mento

King Arthur: Legion IX is astandalone adventure(“not a DLC,” as the development team repeatedly emphasized) set in the same universe asKing Arthur, taking place in the kingdom of Avalon.

Although it shares the same contextual starting point, the narratives are different: this time, players take control ofGaius Julius Mento, an undead leader who arrives in Arthurian lands to resurrect—somewhat ironically—theNinth Legionand rebuild the Roman Empire.

TheNinth Legion of Hispaniadid exist in real history, and when asked whether the team drew inspiration from it, Zsolt Nyulászi, narrative lead forLegion IX, explained:

“Yes and no: while the protagonist isn’t a real person, his name is very reminiscent ofGaius Julius Caesar. None of these names are historically accurate, but they are heavily inspired by real historical figures. In fact, all the stories surrounding them are true, even if the characters themselves never actually existed.”
