With the shadow of the DCEU now behind them, DC Films can focus on the development of the new DCU under the supervision of CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. While the prior executive may have announced several new and upcoming projects that fans can be excited about, the flagship of that schedule, which is,Superman: Legacy.
The project is supposed to be the crux of his vision for the next years of DC films, which makes it all the more important to create a perfect film featuring the Man of Steel. However, reports of a crisis in the Middle East were rumored to be the storyline for the upcoming film, which pushed it into controversial waters. Thankfully, the filmmaker has denied this plot to be in the final film.
James Gunn Assures Controversial Plot OfSuperman: LegacyIs Not A Reality
After the announcement that the current franchise was going to be dismantled, CEOs Peter Safran andJames Gunntook DC Films back to square one, which meant doing everything from the ground up. This has led to the formation of the DCU and the inclusion ofDavid Corenswetin the new franchise as the new Superman, who will make his first appearance as the superhero inSuperman: Legacy.
And thanks to the rumours that surrounded the controversial story we would see brought to be big screen in the film being confirmed by Gunn to be false, fans have high hopes for the project.
When theBrightburnproducer announced the Superman film for the DCU, rumors started to flood in from industry insiders that suggested it was going to feature a conflict in the Middle East that the titular superhero was trying to solve. It was also rumored that it had terrorists that had gained some Kryptonian technology that they were using to wreak havoc. The question of whether these rumors were true or not was asked by a fan on Gunn’s latest Instagram post.

People were worried that this storyline would upset the world with what had been happening in the Middle East for the last decade along with the current Israel-Palestine conflict that has rattled the world. But Gunn came to the rescue of the film’s reputation, saying that this isn’t what the story of the upcoming film will be. Thus, fans are now more excited than ever forSuperman: Legacy.
What Does The DCU Hold In Store For Us?
As stated by James Gunn in the past year, he and Safran have come up with a proposed 10-Year Plan for the DCU timeline, which they have titled ‘Gods and Monsters’
At present, the stories for the franchise’s upcoming animated seriesCreature Commandoshave been completed, which has enabled DC Films to announce the project release sometime in the next year. Along with it, the filmmaker has also confirmed thatSuperman: Legacywill still be making the original release date that it was scheduled for.
Superman: Legacy,releasing in cinemas on 11th July 2025.
