Almost every boss inWuchang: Fallen Featherswill have one to two phases for their fights. Many will only add a few new attacks, while some will switch the type of weapon and means of attack that the boss will use. The Perfect Bride, Fang Ling, is one of the most varied bosses in the game. She will have two unique phases that separate her from the rest of the bosses in the game, making this fight one of the most intense experiences it has to offer.

Preparing to Fight Fang Ling

While her phases 1 and 2 are completely separate, you will still want to properly prepare for the fight.

Fang Ling does have a status effect that can make combat somewhat difficult, but you want to have your loadout ready for both phases. There are some armor options for preventing Poise Break from building up, but the best option will be to avoid it with weapon skills altogether. For the first phase, you’ll want to use a weapon that can either deflect or clash with the boss’s melee combo attacks. Many weapons have the options and upgrades for this playstyle, but theSword Countermove for the longsword will be your best bet to negate any potential damage that the boss can and will do to you in phase 1.

In phase 2, the fight becomes completely different, with the boss frantically moving around the arena and performing large sweeping attacks and lunges. For this portion of the fight, some quick weapons or ones that can reach a longer range might be your best move. Sword Counter won’t be nearly as useful for phase 2, so it is recommended to invest points in the Spear or possibly the Axe. Either of these will depend on your playstyle and what build you have been working towards. The spear excels at attacks from a decent range and has multiple Martial Skills that can help greatly with this fight.

Wuchang Fallen Feathers Ai Nengqi

Fang Ling Phase 1

Be prepared for a more melee-focused first half of this boss.

Fang Ling will use her spectral arm to hang from the ceiling of the arena, shooting four blood spells at you right away. You want to use this moment to perfect dodge all four of the projectiles to gain stacks of Skyborn Might. After this attack, there is also a small area of damage where she lands, so make sure you still have a bit of distance from her to avoid it. There are two things she will do upon landing: either attack instantly with a spin attack or queue up another.

There are a total of nine melee moves and combinations that Fang Ling will use during phase 1, as well as a parry/counter to any damage that you can potentially do. Dealing with these by perfect dodges or deflecting is a solid strategy. Deflecting an attack from Fang Ling will stun her briefly and open her up for a counterattack and some solid damage, making this a fantastic way to fight through this phase.

Wuchang Fang Ling Intro Attack

Play safe and try to take as little damage as possible for this first phase of the fight. While she may seem oppressive now, the fight gets progressively more intense for the final phase. Dodge if you aren’t confident in a deflect or clash window, and try to maintain stacks of Skyborn Might for the fight.

Phase 1 Melee Attacks

Since Fang Ling has a large variety of melee attacks, it will be best to break down what the telegraph is and the move itself for clarity. Most of these can be deflected if you are confident in your ability to read and react to the moves. The attacks will be the following:

Aerial Spin

Fang Ling will hover in the air, preparing her swords for the attack, and drop to you. She will deliver three total hits with this move.

Lunging Stab

When kept at a distance, she will take a low stance and bring her spectral arm to her side with the tip pointed at you. She will then perform a lunging stab attack that will emit a visual indicator that it is incoming.

Charged Stab

This is a variant of the Lunging Stab attack, but this will have her bring both of her blades together when lunging at you. After the visual indicator has popped, you can dodge or deflect the attack.

Quick Strikes

Fang Ling will take on a low stance once again, this time performing two sweeping attacks. The first attack will be at a close range, and the second will have a slightly further reach.

Triple Stab

She will pull her right arm to the side and prepare a stabbing attack, switching to her left arm for the following two stabs. The left stab will have a longer reach to it, but every stab has a visual indicator to let you know when to dodge/deflect.

Scissor Blade

With both blades placed together like scissors, she will now perform a series of three cuts and a fourth follow-up attack.

Floating Slash

Floating into the air and preparing her swords, her left sword will stretch to the right side of her body, and two sweeping attacks will hit at the same time. One sword reaches out far in front of her, while one will be closer to her.

Spinning Sweeps

Fang Ling will spin six times, slashing with her swords as she approaches you. This attack can also combo into several of the previous attacks.

Sword Counter

She will approach you slowly with her left sword positioned in front of her body. Attacking will trigger a counterattack that you can immediately dodge.

When dealing with some of these attacks, you must also know that there are a few that are unsafe if you do end up going for a deflect or clash with your weapons. The Lunging Stab and Scissor Blade attacks are ones that you will want to dodge and attempt to place yourself behind Fang Ling to stun her. Every other attack option is something you can reliably deflect and possibly clash. However, Fang Ling doesn’t only perform melee attacks, and does have three spells that she will use in this phase.

Wuchang Huang Yan

Phase 1 Spell Attacks

The spells might be the easiest part of phase 1 to understand quickly. These attacks have longer wind-up windows than the melee attacks, and can be dodged easily.

Stunning Scream

The monster grafted onto her back will stretch out and go straight up. It will then scream, and if you are caught in it, you will be stunned. If caught, you will have to repeatedly press the dodge button to escape.

Blood Projectile

Fang Ling’s monster will briefly charge up an attack, which will form a cloud of blood before it shoots a projectile at you.

Blood Beam

The monster’s mouth will glow for a split second while charging up a beam attack. This will follow the ground to your location, and the ground below Fang Ling will explode after the attack.

When dealing with these spells, you’ll notice that the monster on Fang Ling’s back will be more of an active participant in these attacks. The head’s movements will give away which spell will come out and determine when you’ll get out of harm’s way. Its stun scream attack will be the most devastating if you’re caught in it, so always keep an eye out for the head movement. If you do happen to be too close to the boss when the scream is about to come out, you can still dodge the initial hit of it. Doing so will allow you to stun Fang Ling and go for a stun attack of your own.

Fang Ling Phase 2

Much like Phase 1, this fight has a varied moveset but with a much more monstrous version of Fang Ling.

This portion of the fight is where Fang Ling becomes her Chimera form. You are going to want to use a weapon that you are most comfortable with. Weapons with some extra range, like the Axe and Spear, will be your best bet to get through this with some ease. When the phase transition is over, the Chimera version of Fang Ling will execute another roaring stun scream. That can be avoided by keeping your distance from the boss at the start.

Phase 2 Melee Attack

With seven total melee attacks, you’ll have to be ready for everything this boss has to throw at you. Each attack will range from a flurry of sweeping claw attacks to lunging bites. The following are the attacks that Chimera Fang Ling will use:

Ground Slam

The Chimera will raise its hand and slam into the ground. Follow-up attacks can and will come from this attack, so keep an eye out for any other attacks once this move comes out.

Lunging Bites

Chimera raises its head briefly before performing a series of back-to-back bites in your direction. Dodging to the side will allow for some extra attacks on your end when this attack happens.

Claw Swipes

With this attack, the boss will swipe a claw from their side that reaches their front side. It can rotate 180 degrees, and a tail whip attack can be followed up from it.

Frequently, after using the Claw Swipes attack, the Chimera will follow up with an almost 360-degree sweep around it.

Wuchang Liu Cheng’en

Combo Ground Slams

The boss will slam into the ground multiple times, alternating hands before finishing the move with a double strike with both hands.

Similar to the bite attacks, the boss will lunge at your location. But on this occasion, the Chimera will charge forward with its body. Sometimes this attack can combo into itself.

Jumping Lunge

For this attack, the boss will perform a jumping lunge in your direction. Dodging backwards will make you more susceptible to being hit, so dodge left or right to avoid the attack.

While this is all manageable enough for a second phase, the boss does end up moving surprisingly fast despite its size. The telegraphs for each move for the melee combos that the Chimera is going to use are harder to differentiate than in phase 1. Thankfully, you only need to recognize that the boss will be hurling itself at you most of the time. Managing to frequently dodge the sides will ensure that you stay safe during the fight and stay out of danger.

Phase 2 Magic Attacks

There are five spells total in this fight, if you count the scream that can stun you. All of these attacks are instantly recognizable in comparison to the melee combos. Be sure to stay on your toes and always on the lookout; these attacks do just as much damage.

Much like the first phase, Chimera lets out a screech that will stun you. However, in this phase, it has a much longer reach and stuns you longer than before.

Sweeping Beam

This is a blood beam that will sweep the arena from the boss’s left side to the right side. This will then go upwards once the sweeps have finished.

Spinning Beam

Chimera will spin clockwise, spewing out a beam of blood in two full rotations.

Explosive Breath

An explosive breath will be shot into the ground. After a brief moment, the residual effect will explode in a cone in front of the boss.

Letting out a roar and looking straight up, the Chimera will trigger meteors to rain down onto the arena. If you are knocked over, the meteors will still cause damage and potentially kill you.

For phase 2 of this fight, you’ll want to work on being as agile as possible while working in attacks when you know they’ll land. If you miss an attack, it can spell the end of the fight due to how quickly and hard the Chimera will hit. Most spears and axes will do well in this fight with their varied skills and ability to deal consistent damage during the phase.

Both Fang Ling phases are a test of what you’ve learned up until this point in the game. Moving through and using every bit of knowledge at your disposal to push to the end. The first phase is centered around your ability to negate and reflect damage, and the second phase tests your ability to handle extreme pressure.
