Alchemy is one of multiple crafting systems that you’ll use inKingdom Come: Deliverance 2. You’ll need to use alchemy to complete some quests, but it’s generally useful throughout the game due to the potions you’re able to craft with it. However, it’s easy to make mistakes in alchemy when you’re first learning the system, or when you’re crafting a new recipe. This is because timing is important, so boiling ingredients for a bit too long or not long enough can affect your potion’s quality.

How to Brew Potions in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Unlikeblacksmithing, you don’t have a lot of audio cues for alchemy to let you know if you’re doing well. Instead, you won’t find out until after you pour your potion into a phial if you did well, and then Henry will make a comment about what went wrong. Usually, the comment he makes is aboutboiling herbs for too long or not long enough, since that’s the part of the recipe that commonly leads to mistakes. Luckily, there are tricks to help you avoid those issues.

When you start a craft at the alchemy station, find the recipe you want to make in your book. The bottom portion of the left pagetells you what you need to do for that recipe. Once you have your recipe chosen, you can take a look at it as needed while crafting. Then, continue your preparation by placing the herbs you need on the shelf. If you don’t have the herbs needed, you can gather them around the world, or you can purchase them. General traders and grocers often carry a selection of commonly used herbs.

After preparing your recipe book and herbs, you need toadd your base to the cauldron. The bases are always on the top left side of the station. Quite a few recipes use wine as a base, such as Fever Tonicum, Chamomile Brew, and Saviour Schnapps. But that’s not always the case, so make sure you use the base mentioned in the recipe.

Next, you’ll start adding and boiling herbs. Usually, the recipe requires you toboil at least one of the herbsafter they’re added to the cauldron. To do this, add the herb, lower the cauldron, then turn the sandglass. Depending on the recipe, you might need to turn the sandglass more than once. When the sand runs out for the last turn, raise the cauldron. If an herb has to be ground, you need to add it to the mortar and grind it before pouring it into the cauldron. You can grind multiple handfuls of herbs at once.

When you finish adding herbs and boiling them as needed, it’s time to finish your potion. If the recipe wants the potion destilled, then you select the still to finish it. Otherwise, grab a phial from the bottom left area of the station and select the option to pour your brew into it, finishing your craft. You earn experience towards alchemy each time you craft potions, and you can unlock perks that give you benefits, likeextra potions of the same quality being made for every successful brew, or leniency for mistakes. With that, you’re ready to find new recipes and craft beneficial brews for Henry in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
