John Wick: Chapter 4is a smash hit. The fourth installment of the action saga starring Keanu Reeves has proven to be one of the best in the franchise, even when it is almost 3 hours long. The film managed to break the box office record of all the previous ones and leaves the ground more than ready to expand its universe further.

This same yearThe Continentalwill hit the small screen, a prequel series focused on the famous hotel for assassins and everything that happens within its walls. The story will follow a young Winston Scott, played by Ian McShane in the movies, and how his story relates to the famous building. The series will have only three episodes.

In addition, Ana de Armas will star inBallerina, a spin-off that will delve into the history of Ruska Roma, the criminal organization led by The Director (Anjelica Huston) that we were able to glimpse briefly inJohn Wick 3: Parabellum.

But, given the success of the most recent installment, the possibilities of a fifth film and other spin-offs remain more present than ever. And that could include a prequel following a youngJohn Wick, although one of its writers doesn’t think that’s a good path.

Why a Young John Wick Prequel Shouldn’t Happen

While speaking withCollider, writer Shay Hatten gave an excellent reason why having a younger actor playing John Wick would be bad for the franchise:

“Yeah. I wouldn’t be shocked if somebody tried it at some point down the road, but it would be daunt… To me, that’s like trying to cast the young Han Solo. It’s just so iconic and hard to fill. And again, I really do think what’s so fascinating about the character of John Wick is that everybody involved in these movies might have a different idea of what his specific backstory is. I know that Keanu has a lot of ideas about John’s past that are really compelling, and Chad has a lot of ideas about John’s past that are compelling, and I have ideas that I like to kind of imagine about. And those might not be the same thing because it really is just never overly defined.”

“And I really do think that’s kind of what’s exciting about it, is that I think a prequel would kind of take out some of the mystique for John’s specific character. I think it’s more fun to keep getting nuggets of information like, oh, he went to this ballet theater at one point in his past and knew Anjelica Huston’s character, and that was kind of a part of his upbringing. But I think it’s more fun to kind of get it in little drips and drabs and then try to put the puzzle together in your mind, than it would be to get all the explicit answers.”
